ADVOCACY CENTRE PARTICIPATES IN MANGROVE PLANTING FOR ECOSYSTEM RECOVERY IN RIVERS STATE

On Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Rumuolumeni Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC) and its networkAdvocacy Centre Youth Volunteers Network join other organizations in a tree planting exercise as part of activities marking the 2021 World Environment Day celebrated on June 5.The program started with a town hall meeting in the community with presentations by the lead organizer, Niger Delta Snap Shorts, the Executive Director of Kabetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, Emem Okon, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco, Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), representatives of Rivers State Ministry of Environment and community representatives among others. The activity progressed from the town hall with awareness road walk to the community waterfront where mangrove trees where planted for ecosystem recovery and restoration as the seashore would be protected by the trees when fully grown. The community waterfront like many others in Rivers and other States in the Niger Delta have lost mangroves to destruction and other harmful human activities on the environment. The Executive Director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC), Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface was represented at the event by Bere Letam Noble, Project Officer on Environment and Indigenous Peoples Rights.
