REPORT/UPDATE ON THE CASE BETWEEN YEAC, FYNEFACE VS MAO NANGI IN THE HIGH COURT OF RIVERS STATE IN THE PORT HARCOURT JUDICIAL DIVISION HOLDING IN PORT HARCOURT FOR THE COURT SITTINGS OF JULY 19 AND 20, 2022

Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC) wishes to update its members, volunteers, followers, local and international development partners who are interested, standing with us and have been following this matter on the outcome of the case on the alleged defamation of the characters of both YEAC and Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface over alleged theft of “Presidential Artisanal Crude Oil Refining Development Initiative-(PACORDI)” by one Mao Nangi Obu in Suit N0. PHC/1057/CS/2021 for Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

The case was adjourned from June 3, 2022 to July 19th and 20th, 2022 for hearing after pretrial was concluded on June 3, 2022.

The case came up at the High Court of Rivers State in the Port Harcourt Judicial Division holding in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

Counsel to the Claimant (YEAC and Fyneface), Chioma Choko, Esq. reports that both himself and the defendant’s (Mao Nangi) lawyer were in the courtroom as he spotted him while other court proceedings were ongoing. However, when the YEAC and Fyneface’s case was called for hearing, the counsel to the defendant was nowhere to be found in the courtroom.

The situation of the defendant lawyer’s absence forced the court to stand-down the case and moved on to other cases whose counsels were present and never returned to our case that was stood-down.

As such, parties to the case were asked to come back on the next adjourned date being today, Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

At the court today, it was discovered that the presiding judge was absent in court on other important engagements, thus, the court did not sit, the case was not heard and a new adjourned date proposed.

The new adjourned date is October 12, 2022.

As usual, we thank you for standing with us at this challenging time.

Signed,

FYNEFACE DUMNAMENE FYNEFACE,

Executive Director, YEAC.

July 20, 2022.
