ADVOCACY CENTRE FLAGS-OFF MOBILIZATION, SENSITIZATION OF ONE MILLION YOUTH VOLUNTEERS AS HUMAN DEFENDERS IN THE NIGER DELTA
Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC) has concluded plans to flag-off the mobilization and sensitization of ONE MILLION YOUTH VOLUNTEERS as HUMAN RIGHT DEFENDERS in the Niger Delta. According to the Executive Director of Advocacy Centre, Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, the youths would also volunteer as Environmental Justice Activists, Climate Change Campaigners, Health Issues and Reporters of Corrupt Practices that contribute to the underdevelopment in the region. Adding that the youth volunteers would also serve as Community Development Volunteers and Peace Advocates in their communities in Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers States.
The Director of Advocacy Centre said in a statement on November 18 that the inspiration for this mobilization and sensitization of One Million Youth Volunteers in the Niger Delta was received in 2018 and communicated same to the world in an interview with FairPlanet, Germany available here https://bit.ly/2oOR3QJ. He further said the inspiration was motivated by the experienced that he gained from American communities especially on volunteerism during participation in the prestigious professional exchange program of the United States Government known as International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2018. He particularly talked about concrete examples of unity, determination and volunteerism in the Crazy Horse Memorial Project and Operation Feed South Dakota in the U.S State of South Dakota as well as the Standing Rock experience in North Dakota.
He joined YEAC to invite the people of the Niger Delta and general public to the event adding that “…after motivation, armed with concrete examples of how American community-based initiatives are contributing to the development of their communities especially through volunteerism in a constructive and sustainable fashion courtesy of American Government through the U.S. Department of State, we are now ready to FLAG-OFF THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE MOBILIZATION AND SENSITIZATION OF ONE MILLION YOUTH VOLUNTEERS IN THE NIGER DELTA”
He said “Details of how we will go about this and how INTERESTED YOUTHS can join us and benefit with international linkages would be made known at the campaign flag-off.
