ADVOCACY CENRE TAKES CAMPAIGN FOR ALTERNATIVE LIVELIHOODS FOR ARTISANAL REFINERS TO BAYELSA STATE
Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC), facilitators of Platform for the Coordina tion of Niger Delta Artisanal Refiners for Modular Refineries as alternative means of livelihoods for environmental sustainability March 2021 commenced a new high-level consultative advocacy campaign for the provision of alternative livelihoods for artisanal refiners to Bayelsa State. The advocacy is part of new activities to tour Niger Delta States to hold meetings with artisanal refiners, form Co-Operative Societies for Modular Refiners and sensitize youths involved in artisanal refineries to stop for environmental sustainability in the Niger Delta.
The Bayelsa State consultative and media advocacy tour held on Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28 after Delta State had its turn from March 25th to 26th with meetings and media appearances by the Executive Director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC), Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface. The meeting with artisanal refiners for the formation of Co-operative Societies for Modular REfineries held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on March 28.
Participants were briefed on YEAC’s invitation and participation in the National Summit for the integration of Artisanal/Modular Refineries into Nigeria Economy organized by the Federal Government in Abuja on March 16 and 17, 2021. The meeting was also used to discuss and the formation and registration of Modular Refineries Cooperative Societies for Delta State. Earlier by 2PM, the Executive Director of Advocacy Centre, Fyneface Dumnamene, the Bayelsa State Advocacy Officer, Godfrey Philip and Southern Ijaw Coordinator of Advocacy Centre, Michael Bruce had an hour of advocacy and sensitization on GLORY, 97.1FM to discuss these issues.
